It was August of 2001. I was 25 years old. I had been married for 4 years to my high school girlfriend. I owned 4 houses, was vice president of a multimillion-dollar company, was an entrepreneur, drove new cars, was a private pilot, took tropical vacations, and so much more.
I had a lot.
And I had nothing.
I was missing the point entirely. I was self-consumed, arrogant, and blind to the world around me.
My determination, while intense, was drawing on bad fuel. And within 7 years, I would be completely burnt-out, severely depressed, and an all-around terrible person.
I had health issues, drinking issues, and relationship issues. I was surrounded by issues. And I was the common denominator.
But I survived.
Actually, I have thrived.
What's The Takeaway?
Own your story. All of it. The good and the bad. Learn from it.
But then move on.
Leave the bad behind and choose to forgive yourself. Choose to be the better you.
